November 21, 2002System Restoreum, yea. Remind me not to be unjustifiably grumpy anymore, cause the universe just might see fit to justify it. No thanks to the little program called RegSeeker, which I trusted because I found it on Techtv, I just finished completely reformatting my hard drive. UGH! It said to backup, so I did - manually. Then I ticked the little box that said "backup before deleting entries". Then I ran the program. Then I attempted to restart. I got past the little Windows XP startup screen, and then nothing! "Self," i say, "what a PITA, but it's ok. I can just F8 into safe mode and restore my backup" NOPE! XP hangs at loading Mup.sys. "Grrr" I think. So, I try a few more things. I tried loading from my last "good load," I try safe mode a few more times. Then I give up. I probably should have waited - it's possible there was a way I could have saved some of my stuff. But I didn't. BAH! oh, and did I mention GRRR and UGH ?! and sigh. Mostly, I must learn to backup my Office mails and contacts and such on a weekly basis - to a CD, because that's what hurts the most when I lose it. Not quite the way I planned on spending my evening, but at least everything is speedy again - which was the desired effect of running RegSeeker in the first place. hah! comments on this post:
